Alma has been teaching flute for over 30 years to students of all levels and all ages. Weekly lessons are 30, 45, or 60 minutes long, depending on the age or the needs of the student. Her studio environment is friendly and fun, and at the same time very effective at enhancing flute and musical skills.
Individual flute classes for teenagers
Teenage students often train for their school band and participate in music competitions. Alma’s teenage students have included several winners of the North Carolina All-State Band Competition and the Raleigh Flute Association (RaFA) competition.
Individual flute classes for adults
Adults can maintain and improve their flute skills or start learning flute as a new instrument. They can select their favorite music on which to work. Adult players often enjoy playing in flute choirs (see below)
Flute choir and chamber music coaching
Alma has a long experience in training and coaching ensembles with different instrument configurations.
Suzuki Classes for Kids
With kids under 12 years of age, Alma typically employs the Suzuki method. The Suzuki method is an educationally sound and gentle approach to teaching music. Based on the philosophy that all children can learn, this method has been successful for millions of young children around the world. This introductory course will involve the parent along with the child.
Lessons Online
For the students that live far away from Chapel Hill or even in another country, Alma teaches lessons online using Skype and the payment is via PayPal. Lessons varies in length according to the needs of the student. Also, students can participate in a new program of "practicing every day with an expert" in whichthey can choose to have a guided routine practice.
